The story of "The Lady Eve" revolves around Jean Harrington, played by Barbara Stanwyck, a sharp and sophisticated con artist who, along with her father, aims to swindle wealthy passengers aboard an ocean liner. Charles Pike, portrayed by Henry Fonda, is a wealthy, socially awkward snake enthusiast who becomes their unsuspecting target.
The film takes a humorous and romantic turn when Jean Harrington falls in love with Charles Pike, but her initial attempts to deceive him are foiled. She then reinvents herself as "The Lady Eve" and pursues him again, leading to a series of comical and romantic misadventures.
